Concerned about a lack of revenue income and being between seasons for events, I decided to do some re-financing to create cash enough to get two flyers printed and mailed to get the cash flowing. No sooner had I signed the papers three things happened. One, I got approval from Savannah Cardiology to be a $5,000.00 title sponsor for two Savannah events; two, SUNTRUST Bank came across for $2,500.00 to be a title sponsor for the Jekyll Island Ride; and, three. I got my taxes done and am getting back $1,100.00. An un-expected windfall of $8,600.00 I will get in the coming two months. I will put most of the re-finance money in savings, but it will allow me to pay off my car and my Sears account that had climbed due to car repairs I had to charge in the past six months, as well as, reduce monthly bill payments substantially. By paying off the car, I will be able to replace the Taurus in the event it “dies” from the 109,000 miles it has been run.
Valentine’s Day at Ginger’s turned out to be a real “doosey”. I became violently ill Saturday and threw up all day, ate nothing after breakfast and was feeling like I would have to get better to die. This is the third time since dating Ginger that I have had this type of illness. Thought it was the water, but have been using bottled water for some time there. May have been Ginger’s cooking, but she doesn’t get ill. My doctor said it could be sinus infection, but didn’t have sinus infection this time.
Have been approved by Veteran’s Administration for pharmacy service, which means I will be able to get most all prescriptions for $5.00 a month for each one. Waiting for an appointment with a VA Doctor for the once a year interview required to stay on the program and get started. This will allow me to take couple of prescriptions (Ambien and Prevacid) that I don’t take because I can’t afford them every month (The two would be $130.00 total monthly).
Will leave for Florida Trails Tour Sunday, Feb 22., return Friday night, Feb. 27. Had a call yesterday from woman in Canada who is considering joining the tour. If she and her friend join, it will give me eight people and another little profit to go with the windfall in first paragraph above.
As for my health, you would be pleased to know I have lost a little weight and blood sugar is coming down. Will start riding again as soon as this cold weather moderates. Hopefully I will get in 60 to 70 miles next week riding with the tour people when I don’t have to SAG. By the time BRAG comes around, maybe I will be back in shape!

Valentine’s Day for Ginger and I has changed. We have cancelled our trip to White Springs and the SBA’s annual Sweetheart Bicycle Ride weekend. Rain and cooler weather forecast led us to the decision to stay in Statesboro and go out to dinner at Longhorn Steak House.
BicycleSAVANNAH has taken a lot of my time lately as I try to launch sponsors, hotel accommodation, volunteers for this years events. Of note, is Russ Beasley of Lowcountry Velo who works with Ted Austad of Oglethorpe Speedway (people who want to buy my events) has recruited ten people to help with the Earth Day Ride. This is a good sign that they will be able to get people to implement the rides next year. Those people along with volunteers from the Coastal Bicycle Touring Club will allow the rides to continue. Still waiting for Savannah Cardiology to approve title sponsorship for Earth Day. They may decide to do Historic Savannah Bikefest instead.
I have tried to get back on Dr. Atkins Diet to lose some weight and get my blood sugar down. It’s down a little, but I need to eliminate more carbohydrates. Will concentrate on doing that in coming weeks, as well as, getting out and riding my bike more. The weather seems to be stopping the riding, but Spring will come soon, I hope!
Future trips and events include:
Florida Trails Tour, Inverness, 2/22-2/27
Assist Jerry Colley (BRAG) at Fort Stewart travel exhibition, March 16
Earth Day Ride, April 3
Florida Safari, 4/17-23
Private Tour in Savannah for Florida Couple, April 27-30
Jekyll Island Challenge and Sunset Ride, May 15-16
